HM10™

Calcium Carbonate Concentrates for
Polyolefin Extrusion

Significant savings on raw material costs
Increased productivity
Improved performance

Improve Profitability, Productivity, and Performance

  • Save on raw material costs: realized savings can range from $0.02 - $0.06 per pound (depending on percentage of HM10® used)

  • Better bubble stability, higher outputs, increased line speeds, and easier converting and thermoforming

  • Enhances impact, stiffness, and tear strength performance

  • Improves barrier for moisture and oxygen

  • Modifies surface for improved COF, printability, weld strengths, and adhesion.

Product Description

HM10® Series CaCO3 concentrates are designed to improve the performance of polyethylene film, sheet, and coating applications. HM10® concentrates contain 76%-80% of a fine ground, surface treated CaCO3 combined with various polyolefin carrier resins.

Products Available

HM-10®Max > 80% in LLDPE carrier
HM-10® S1 >

80% in LLDPE carriers
with 1%, 2%, and 5%
respectively added slip

HM-10® S2
HM-10® S5
HM-10® HD > 76% in HDPE carrier

HM10® usage levels range from 5 - 40%, depending on the application

What to Expect During Processing

  1. HM10® requires no change in the temperature profile

  2. Lower extruder amps and pressures often realized due to lower melt viscosity

  3. HM10® concentrates produce a whiter appearance in un-pigmented films

  4. Colored film/sheet may appear lighter - solution is to reformulate color masterbatch, not increase loading level

  5. Using additive feeder at extruder throat best, but central blend stations are being used with good results

Productivity Gains

  • CaCO3 conducts heat approximately 20 times faster than polymers

  • Increased thermal conductivity of the extrudate which results in faster heating and cooling of polymer.
    > Enhanced processability and extrusion output
    > Easier handling and converting
    > Significantly increased line speeds and faster converting times

Physical Property Improvements

  1. Improves impact strength of both LLDPE and HDPE film and sheet.

  2. Enhances tear strength and stiffness of film and sheet.

  3. Increases seal strengths of film

  4. Increased barrier to moisture and oxygen

  5. Improves printability

  6. Improves formability in sheet applications
